Plans to boost new homes in Warrington revealed for public consultation

Warrington residents are being invited to have their say as Peel Land launch a series of public consultations outlining plans which could bring 460 much needed new homes across three grey belt residential developments - addressing the national policy imperative to increase housing delivery
The sites earmarked are in Hollins Green, Lymm and Croft which would boost the supply of family homes in the town with 45 per cent (207) designated as affordable. All the developments feature high quality, sustainable homes with a mix of tenure, size and type.
Plans for Hollins Green, south of Manchester Road, would bring 200 new homes of which 90 would be affordable, while creating 180 new jobs during construction. The proposed scheme incorporates 10.4 acres or over six full sized football pitches of new play and recreation space – with more planting and walkway along the Manchester Ship Canal for new and existing residents to enjoy.

The proposed Lymm development, south of Bucklow Gardens, includes 60 new homes with 27 earmarked as affordable. A third of the scheme features green and recreational space as well as a community orchard. Biodiversity would be further enhanced through the expansion of existing woodland with new footpaths and improved access to the picturesque Bridgewater Canal for those on foot.
Turret Hall Farm, Croft, north of Lord Street, would deliver a new community made up of 200 homes, 90 of which will be affordable with at least a quarter of the scheme featuring green and public spaces including play areas. The development of the scheme will create 170 construction jobs with further opportunities evolving in local retail stores to serve residents.

Matthew Stafford, Associate Director, Peel Land said: “These three schemes directly tackle Warrington’s current housing needs by providing new homes and a higher than normal proportion of affordable housing. The plans also bring greater opportunity for first-time buyers wanting to get onto the property ladder as well as for growing families.
“The consultations are a key part of the planning process, we’re therefore keen to gain as much feedback as possible from residents on the proposed plans.”
All three sites meet the criteria for grey belt which is considered by the Government as low quality Green Belt on the edge of existing settlements, which do not strongly protect the countryside from urban expansion. The proposals are fully in line with the National Planning Policy Framework to bring forward the delivery of new homes within sustainable developments.
