Plans submitted to boost jobs and investment in Bolton
Peel Land has this week submitted plans for a new employment scheme off Junction 4 of the M61 Bolton which would create as many as 500 local jobs and potentially boost the town’s economy by over £20 million per year.
The 30,000 square metre development, located adjacent to Logistics North and to the South East of junction 4, is the first ‘grey belt’ application to be submitted by Peel Land. This first application of its kind will bring employment opportunities suitable for logistics, manufacturing and supply chain businesses.

Should it be approved, the scheme would unlock new jobs across a range of skills and roles. Based on industry standards, the scheme will create over 100 construction related jobs, 380 on site once the development is operational and a further 140 through the supply chain.
Annabel Baker, Associate Director, Development Planning, who has been leading the application said: “The scheme sits within the NorthFold growth corridor between Bolton and Wigan which has been identified by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority as a key location for employment and economic growth. The Junction 4 South East scheme is a significant opportunity to bring jobs and investment to the local area and help address a shortage of sites for economic development.”
A decision should be made in the next three months.
